Exactly
one year ago our hero was tragically taken away from us. It was therefore difficult for the team
at Brock05 to plan and contemplate what to do on such an emotional
anniversary. Fortunately, our contemplation
worries were fully sorted when Brock’s mate, Peter Champion,
decided to have an open day and formally announce his acquisition
of HDT Special vehicles.
What better a tribute to the King
of the Mountain than to gather several of his classic race cars and
then to surround these faithfully restored instruments of his sporting
success with his mates, friends and fans.
While
many of us continue to grieve and come to terms with our loss, Peter
Champion and has staff, made all visitors feel very welcome as he unselfishly
displayed Peter’s 1969 Bathurst GTS Monaro 350, 1973 Bathurst
winning GTR XU1, 1974 ATCC L34 Torana, and the ultimate Aussie race
car, the awe inspiring 1984 Bathurst winning “Big Banger” VK
Commodore. Add to this some very fine examples of Peter’s
HDT Commodore road cars within the interesting atmosphere
of HDT’s workshop and you can’t help but feel that Peter
Brock’s legacy is in excellent hands.
Harry
Firth |
While
friends & fans mingled and admired much fine historical machinery,
PB’s mentor, Harry Firth, willingly gave the time to tell
some home truths about what actually happened both on the track
and indeed outside the paddock! He also energetically signed
many an autograph for his many admirers and fans
The
other great news is that there is a bold new future direction
for HDT Special Vehicles. While
we are |
all
thankful for the faithfulness to which the previous owners of HDT
have maintained the HDT traditions, one cannot but help but feel
excited about the synergies that will once again exist between HDT
Special Vehicles and the race car collection that Peter Champion
has created. It’s like a back to the future scenario
and one in which I feel Brocky would have welcomed and enjoyed.
Peter
Champion is still putting together the finishing touches on his Peter
Brock collection of road and Race cars at Yeppoon (Queensland) as
we all wait impatiently to see the finished product. Peter
advises that it’s about 95% complete so keep your eyes peeled
for updates on our page as it’s going to be one hell of
an event and one you should not miss.
So
if you find your way to HDT HQ at Revesby NSW, you owe it to yourself
to visit and say hello to the new faces as you won’t
be disappointed. The new head is Darren Gillis and he’s
only too happy to discuss with you HDT’s new and exciting directions.
The team at brock05 have put together a slide show of the pictures
we took at HDT and we all trust you will enjoy them.
Once again, a big
thank you goes to Peter Champion and his staff for their hospitality
in hosting such a memorable occasion.
