Brocks car was OK but was overshadowed
by Lowndes Supercar. Mechanical breakdowns at various tracks prevented
Brock from winning races. Nevertheless, Brock was up the front
end of the field all season. |

1997
- Holden Commodore VS - V8 Supercar - HRT
After three rounds of the Shell
series completed Brock announced his retirement. The fans were
shocked as he was driving as well as any of the young guns in the
most competitive touring car series in the world. He was consistently
competitive for Pole position and landed on the podium throughout
the Series. World TV audiences witnessed Brocky win the Touring
car support events of the Australian Grand Prix. Insiders
believed that a dispute over his involvement with 2 Litre Volvo had
soured his taste for HRT management. However, the HRT had never
been more professional in their presentation and overall competitiveness.
They were the No1 team in the country. Had it not been for a
flat tyre in the final laps of the Shell race at Oran Park, Brock
would have won the last ATCC race of his career. At Bathurst,
Skaife put 05 on pole. Brock lead the race from the start in his final
professional race. The 05 car retired from the race while leading
due to a freak fuel injector problem. We all witnessed the end
of an incredible era with much sadness. Brock simply smiled
and thanked his fans for the opportunity to entertain them. |
