The
GM Dealer Team car driven by Denny Hulme and Captain Peter
Jason vigorously chase Leo Leonard in the XD Fairmount.
Its because of the success of Leos granddads
car that invigorated GM to do something to end the blue
ovals party. Pictures courtesy of Donn White. |

here trackside at Baypark. It was the only Black painted
SS and boasted gold painted Simmons centres and a sunroof.
Who is the proud owner of this ultra rare vehicle in NZ?

These cars are bloody good and fast enough to bring home
the silver wear for GMH NZ.

checks the bonnet is secure for Brock as the car prepares
to make its way to the grid. A big exhaust, rollcage and
some tweaks and the SS was a potent production racing car.

Left: The starting grid at Baypark has some interesting
characters. The ford RS2000 of Lorimer/Lawrance lines
up on the narrow start finish line with fellow front row
SS Commodores of MclLean/Lloyd (11) and Wilkinson/Crichton
(No 4). The second row comprises of the Sprague/Leonard
Fairmount and the Brock/Oxton SS Commodore, the No 9 car
is the SS Commodore Collingwood/Barclay.

Its a tight track but apparently big enough for
three cars on the front grid.
