Brock scores at AIR,
Moffat's car stolen

In a weekend of unbelievable drama, Peter Brock roared his Holden Dealer Team Torana around Adelaide International Raceway to win the sixth round of the Australian Touring Car Championships in impressive style.

All the drama surrounded series points leader Allan Moffat who had his Ford works Falcon GTHO racecar stolen the night before the race. Running his familiar red Falcon GTHO Moffat had set fastest time in practice on the Saturday and had retired for the evening with the racecar securely locked away in the workshops of BS Stillwell Ford in Adelaide.

However during the night thieves forced the lock on the workshop doors, filled the car with petrol and bold as brass drove the racecar, complete with numbers and decals, away through the streets of suburban Adelaide. Up till press time no trace had been found of the car.

In order that Moffat could race, Victorian driver Murray Carter offered his Falcon GTHO to the Ford works driver and it was his car that Moffat, after starting from the back of the grid, eventually finished second in the race.

Drama dogged Moffat even during the event when officials, thinking that the Falcon was about to lose an exhaust pipe, black flagged Moffat into the pits on lap nine. The stop cost the Ford driver more than a minute and he finished the race one lap down to winner Brock.

Victorian Laurie Nelson driving a Charger finished third in the event ahead of the Torana XU-1's of John Stoopman and Tony Niovanni plus the Charger of Western Australian Ian Diffen.
