Coming a first lap excursion into the grassy infield of
Surfers Paradise International Raceway, Holden Dealer Team
driver Peter Brock fought back brilliantly to win the fifth
round of the Australian Touring Car Championships last Sunday.
|
Driving
his Torana XU-1 Brock featured in an almost race long
dice with Ford works driver Allan Moffat and carved
a massive 3.5 seconds of the lap record en route to
his first win in the series.
The
victory keeps the series 'alive' as a win by Moffat
would have tried the championship for 1973.

Moffat
in an attempt to pass Ian Diffan's Charger on the
outside of Repco slid off the track and dropped back
to third place to finish just ahead of team mate Fred
Gibson in the second Ford works Falcon GTHO.
|
| Second
place in the race went to Ian 'Pete' Geoghegan who put
up a great driving display, pressuring the leaders all
the way, to come home in a well deserved second place
in his Grace Bros/Melbourne Chrysler Dealers Charger
E49. |
